How To Achieve A Makeup Hair And Outfit Looks From The 1940s For An Everyday Wear

Roughly vi months ago, a good friend of mine organized a vintage party. Due to information technology's success she revisited the concept and this time the theme was 1920s, 1930s AND 1940s inspired. Since last fourth dimension I dressed up as a Roaring Twenties flapper daughter (click here if y'all'd like to see that), I decided to do things differently this time. I had a look at my cupboard and constitute out I already had the perfect outfit for a 1940s inspired await. With some googling and the help of Youtube I also found the perfect hair tutorial and the brand up I pretty much figured out myself. This is my completed 1940s inspired look (and I volition also tell y'all how I created it).

This is just my hair and make upwards though, you will find outfit pictures if you scroll further downward. First, I volition go over the steps I took to create this wait. I started with the hair because it took the nigh time. Approximately 6 hours before I had to get prepare I sat down to put my hair up in pin curls to create the pin curl waves you see in the pictures above. For this I used this two part video tutorial (part ane, role 2). I tried out the pilus on Friday night merely my hair was too make clean and I didn't wait long enough. So I started with dirty hair (I simply skipped a twenty-four hour period of washing it), added two easily full of mousse on my lengths and dosed my roots in dry shampoo. All that merely to give it a bit of texture. I then took ane inch pieces of hair, wetting each strain with my fingers, then rolling the hair around my fingers and bobby pinning information technology to my caput. I ended upwards looking like a retro housewife:

After letting it set and dry thoroughly for almost v – 6 hours, I removed the hair pins and ended up with Medusa hair:

I then used a rounded brush to brush out the curls, folding them in towards my fave on one side, while brushing them outwards on the other. Since my pilus is cut in layers the issue is not as uniform as in the video, but after virtually 30 minutes of brushing and a whole lot of hairspray, I pinned one side behind my ear with a bobby pin and concluded upward with this upshot:

Ah! No make upwardly, and then let'due south complete the look. After applying a full confront of make up I looked like this:

I used quite a chip of foundation and concealer to brand sure I evened out my skin tone as much as possible, which I paired with a neutral matte blush and a matte bronzer to shape my face ever then slightly. I drew on my eyebrows much heavier than I normally would using a darker pencil and making them very full and extending them a flake, but keeping my natural shape. The optics were simple: I used a base to fifty-fifty out my eyelid color, practical matte white eyeshadow to my chocolate-brown bone and all over the lid. I used a matte ashy brownish colour to my pucker to add a bit of shading. Adjacent I used a blackness liquid eyeliner to line my optics and create a wing past utilizing a piece of sellotape/ scotch. For my lips I offset lined and filled in my lips with a crimson lipliner. I topped it up with a matte red lipstick. I opted for adding false lashes but since they broke and I only had 5 minutes left, I left them out.

Face: MAC Confront & Trunk foundation in C1, MAC Studio Sculpt concealer in NW15, MAC Prep & Prime number Transparent pressed finishing powder, NARS blush in Sex Appeal, Sephora disk bronzer in Light, Famous bronzer/ highlighter in Shade 1: Miami.

Brows: Do good brow pencil in medium, HEMA eyebrow gel.

Eyes: Too Face Shadow Insurance, MAC Painterly Paint Pot, Bodyshop eyeshadow in no. 13, MAC eyeshadow in Omega, Fifty'Oreal Superliner in black, Maybelline I by One mascara in black, MAC Chromagraphic eyeliner pencil in NW15/xx.

Lips: Essence lip liner in Cerise Blush, MAC Russian Red matte lipstick.

Consummate Look

For the complete wait, I kept things simple outfit and accessories wise. I wore a nude dress with a black lace comprehend which I bought years ago. I wore black maryjanes with a t-bar strap and black pantyhoses with a seam along the back. It's all in the detail!

What I'yard wearing:

– Black lace covered dress (M&S way)

– Blackness pantyhoses (Bijenkorf)

– Blackness mary jane shoe (Manfield)

Accessories: simulated pearl necklace (Claire's), matching ring & earrings (my grandma's)
